Tricky – Skilled Mechanics – Compact Disc, CD, !K7, 2016

Tricky embraces change. He keeps on movings. Keeps on mutating… keeps on evolving. It’s what keeps him vital as an artist.

After moving to Berlin early this Spring, he immediately started work on a new musical project called Skilled Mechanics. In his trademark husky West Country burr, the Bristol born musician, producer and rapper explains where the name came from: “It’s from a documentary about espionage. There was an ex-C.I.A. ‘skilled mechanics’. I thought that was a great name for someone who was a killer basically. The name was so dark and cynical it just stuck with me.”

Tricky, an influential figure in the music world, is best known for his groundbreaking work in trip-hop, a genre rooted in atmospheric, down-tempo beats. Emerging from the Bristol music scene, he became a defining voice in the 1990s, blending hauntingly cinematic soundscapes with elements of hip-hop, dub, and alternative rock. His music often features a dark, moody aesthetic and hypnotic rhythms, creating an immersive experience.

Tricky’s work embodies the introspective, boundary-pushing ethos of the trip-hop genre while also weaving in influences from reggae, punk, and electronica.
