In 1980, King Crimson, led by Robert Fripp, began shifting towards a more experimental, avant-garde sound. They combined elements of progressive rock, new wave, and post-punk. Their 1981 album Discipline marked a new direction, featuring intricate, interlocking guitar work, complex rhythms, and the use of electronic instruments. This era also saw contributions from guitarist Adrian Belew and bassist Tony Levin, adding to the band’s evolving, innovative sound.
